See my replies to @Rozjemca35 above (and the second video above) for explanation of why PoS is NOT being discussed as part of Avalanche pre-consensus protocol.
If avalanche is soft-fork, can the pre-consensus pow be replaced with pos also as a soft fork?
Do you mean that instead of the miners of the last 100 blocks, the pre-consensus group will be sustituted be coin stackers? Will be more complicated, you need to enforce them to pay if dishonest.
Amaury explains it better and simpler:"Basically, it is like Ripple" RIP
Avalanche seems like a great idea the more I hear about it. Helos scaling, and protection against double spends.
I'm not sure why so many people are assuming they will jump straight into PoS with Avalanche, they've said they eventually intend to base selection on PoW contribution for over 100 prior blocks
I think it's an elegant and practical solution. I was a fan of 0-conf forfeits, but I think that this will add a considerable amount of security
Anybody knows if avalanche will make it into BCH?
Avalanche preconsensus does have some good potential. Can't wait to see how well it works.
Just when I thought they are not going to do it
I think the idea is to use Avalanche to improve Block propagation rates. Also a double spend protection. A preconsensus algorithm independant of the PoW algorithim. If they decide to persue it.
It is an interesting consensus mechanism. Not sure if it better to pair it with the PoW algorithm, or to be it's own thing.
If Avalanche can be applied to BCH, that would be awesome. However, I have to be honest I have yet to understand how this is a secure method. Probably I'm still missing some bits and pieces.
I am now optimistic of Avalanche.
The BEST way to explain what Avalanche is and how it can work for BCH as well as AVA is using an animated doodle. Would someone please make one?
