The token seems fine for governance purposes. but a OP_RETURN token would be better.

Really exciting to see Joystream going forward but kind of disappointed they around using OP_RETURN for their funding token. Anybody knows why?
1876d
They *are using.
1875d
I don't know, but maybe they're waiting which option spreads in the future? Maybe we'll have OP_GROUP tokens in a future upgrade.
1875d
AFAIC they are moving forward right now with ETH for their token
1875d
But an ERC20 is just a temporal solution, nobody wanna deal with ETH fees...
1874d
I agree but how easy it is to switch your tokens from ETH blockchain to BCH blockchain? Is it even feasible at all?
1873d
I don't know exactly how they could perform the swap, they'll need to know every BCH and ETH address from every holder and issue a new token on BCH.
1873d
Yeah ok that's what I thought.
1862d
What can you do with JOY? it must be exchanged for another final token later? But then what do you do with that?
1861d
1861d
I think JOY tokens are intended for voting upon development, but the base currency for Joystream is BCH. I'm sure it will have more use cases but it's still too early to know.
1861d
BTW, they just said that Wormhole protocol is very basic for the purposes, that's why JOY is a ERC20 token.

According to an admin of TG group, they'll implement a way to discover torrents. I guess it will be decentralized to avoid legal troubles.

Good news. Can't wait to see their next release!

Still missing lots of info. Now even sure if they will use BCH for seeding payments at long term.
1743d
Yes they will.

It should be like popcorn time with payments. That would be awesome.
1721d
Yeah can't wait for it to be fully functional.
