I fail to understand why Britain decided to leave, they were major power in EU and could influence others to stop Germany's and France's dominant role.
All people want sovereignty and need it – from Catalonia to Quebec to England to everywhere. Multi-cultural Federalism doesn't work. If given a real choice, people will always choose sovereignty.
