At the same time, their attempts to gain entry to the church were rebuffed, leading to a standoff with the guards when they returned to the ruined tavern
After a heated discussion, the group's paladin drew his sword and struck down one of the guards as both parties looked on...

Okay so first off is Pelor, the Sun Father, embodiment of Idealism and Justice. He is the deity of laws, rules, and systems. His patrons include rulers, lawmakers, and diplomats

Had a good session, forgot my battle-mat but was able to jury-rig a replacement using notebook paper and sellotape. A shorter session but very much action packed as the party finds itself split up

After setting fire to the tavern to aid their escape, the group returned, managing to uncover the passage from the rubble while avoiding the ire of the city guard

After killing several of the smugglers and driving the rest off, the group discovered an underground passage linking the tavern the smugglers were using to a nearby church... #DnD

Certainly a pain trying to manage a split party, need to ensure that you switch focus often so no one sub group gets bored. Ideally you want them to rejoin as quickly as you can!

Leaving the guards go, the group quickly hurried down a hidden, underground tunnel whereupon they found their progress blocked by a barricaded door

With the cultists on the brink of defeat, the group were forced to enact a frantic escape from the collapsing church as the fire consumed it

Eventually bashing their way in, the group found a shrine dedicated to dragon worship in the depths of the church, along with many slain acolytes
