Monero developers = full professional incompetence. If the computer crashes during sync, the blockchain permanently damages. This means you have to run your computer for 5 full weeks to sync.

Monero developers didn't understood what an API is, so they used opengl for the gui, instead of xlib/gdi. This means monero uses 3D acceleration to display the balance.

Monero fails to generate a word list for certain localizations, generating a non-recoverable wallet. There are no parts of this software that works properly.

The way to save corrupted blockchain state are the --db-salvage switch, which does works from 9 per 10 of the cases. this point this is a toy program.

After Monero developers were unable to write a proper caching system for syncing, they introduced a warning to use the software only from SSD disks :D

Yea, the GUI / fullnode is terrible. I tried to download the blockchain on 3 different machines on a hard line. It just got stuck or crashed every single time.

There has to be a way to sync the chain in pruned mode.
I actually just need to use the view key to see the balance.
This should be available in a block explorer online. No?

You can set it up as a light wallet by connecting a third party node, although thats kills the purpose of monero (privacy + untraceability) due to a mixin vulnerability.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
