They do matter a lot. Blockstream still controls /r/Bitcoin and bitcointalk.org and the bitcoin repository. BTC is still the #1 by marketcap. Also, they are attacking BCH constantly.
They only matter if you want it so - bitcoin.com is pro Bitcoin Cash - @Bitcoin is pro Bitcoin Cash - Gavin Andresen is pro Bitcoin Cash
Gavin basically disappeared and outside of a couple of endorsements he did not stand behind BCH (which is a huge disappointment imo).
