VPN always, and keep your whole hard drive encrypted.

What's your VPN provider? Is there a service you'd recommend?

I use PIA. They have a no log policy, but of course, you need to trust that. Or you can use TOR over VPN to feel safer.

Of course, I sign up with a temporary mail and pay with BCH, I don't want to give any private data to them.

I’ve been using NordVPN for a few years, constantly top rated, lots of features, and usually offer a pretty good discount like $2.75/mo if pre-paid, but don’t take crypto yet

Unfortunately a VPN must be trusted with all your browsing metadata, so you have to be very careful. I use Proton for both mail and VPN. I pay them quite a bit but have peace of mind.

I normally use my openvpn virtual appliance to connect back to home and route all traffic through it.

So... all your traffic appears to come from your home IP? What's the privacy advantage there?
replied 2211d
you hide traffic when connecting from untrusted networks.

The privacy implications of 3rd party VPN providers are a lot worse.

Also, you can run your virtual VPN appliance from anywhere.
