That isn't just a thought process though. That is how representative democracy works. There is no slavery going on. Regular people can even run for elections, and have won.
"While not government, I am an elected official" There is all the difference in the world. A *government* official can send armed men to *make* you do things. No other "official" can!
I represent those who voted, and those who did not vote. It is strange representing people when voter apathy is high. Except it means no one is upset with how thigs are run.
