Is the Amazon really still on fire?
replied 1648d
The Amazon is always on fire.

Why? That's really f* up!

The good news is the rate is decreasing. The bad news is that we've lost 20% of the forest since 1970

The largest rainforest in the whole world.

Corporations, and the new government in Brazil supporting them. Whether it's clearing land for farming or other corporate activity, there is always apart of the Amazon burning.

Very true, but the danger of the recent fires, and the reason that foreign governments have been trying to persuade these countries to stop the deforestation, is that dieback will star

t very soon, if it hasn't already. The rainforest ecosystem isn't sustainable if it's fragmented or cleared/burned beyond a certain point https://bch.gg/1sd

So the fire that is going on right now. One they did on purpose but got out of control or what?
replied 1648d
On purpose, Brazilian ranchers commonly use fire as a cheap way to clear and fertilize land for grass and cattle. Gotta keep meat dirt cheap for McDoubles
replied 1648d
So the story that the fire is out of control is fake news? Somehow I am not surprised
replied 1648d
Not fake news, the Amazon is always on fire to some extent, and some of it is most likely wildfires. The issue is that Brazilian farmers appear to be setting more fires than before

Shitty Brazilian politicians are saying it's their right to burn the rainforest, and blaming any lack of control on non governmental organizations. Basically denying all responsibility
