I think he is just trying to make it easier for the robots to make the vehicles so he can speed up production. It is easier for the machines to handle flat things. Just an opinion...
It's faster/cheaper to produce w/o unnecessary clearly esthetically pleasing bs. Personally, a truck is as ugly as the 1st second I saw it, so functionality should be the only standard
