People have very similar traits, but "exactly the same", no. There ARE differences. Muslims have a holy text that tells them that nonmuslims are unclean and to be treated like dogs.
"Dogs" is a harsh word here, but I think your common westerner is not aware how differently muslims treat other muslims and nonmuslims, if following their own faith.
When I say "dogs" is a harsh word though, it is too bland if comparing to what the scripture says directly. "They are vile animals and beasts, the worst of creatures and demons".
They are perverted transgressors and partners of Satan ... to be fought until religion is Allah's alone... They are to be beheaded, terrorized, annihilated, crucified, punished, ...
By default, in every country people hate/fear others who are different.
Again, such drives are there, but to different extents in different groups. And not every country has a religion that says to behead those outside their group and so on.
As far as I understand, there is an actual hierarchy where nonbelievers are at the bottom, with rules of how they can be treated. For example it seems accepted to make agreements...
as believers with nonbelievers without the believer having any intention of holding up his part of the bargain. This from a supposed "holy" scripture.
