It's amazing how many people think that if the USPS didn't exist, there'd be no mail. The town I live in has no municipal trash pickup -- several companies *compete* for the business!
The only reason they don't collude together to price gouge you beyond reason is because they are idiots, or have a moral code. So basically idiots in a free market.
No, if they collude too much competitors spring up. Some haul to an incinerator 100 miles away. Some take it to the nearest dump. Some are super-green. Choices. FREE MARKETS FTW
I mean, why not $100 a month for trash pickup? What would you do otherwise? Drive your trash somewhere on your personal time only to pay them?
Actually yes, I do. I put garbage into the truck and drive to the dump. We have pay-by-bag so the fee is included in the price. I *could* pay someone to haul it for my convenience.
