This is the comment I was going to write on a Yours post.
Memo allows 217 characters per post.
If you try to link to the Yours post in this first comment, you will limit your space lots.
If you're in a hurry...
replied 753d
yours.org needs to include its own URL shortener. In the meantime, http://bch.gg works pretty well. Of course, there's no guarantee it will remember the short URLs forever.

This
https://memo.cash/topic/BooksOTB

compared with this
https://bch.gg/ooks

This should help with linking many, many things :)

I didn't know there was already a URL shortener! <3
replied 753d
Glad to help. BTW, you might notice it only accepts lowercase chars, and drops all others, which is why your "Books" got turned to "ooks". Kinda lame & took me a while to figure out.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Thank you! I was trying to figure that out and wondered, and you've said explicitly what I almost intuited to my conscious mind.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Just write out your message and post it so you can copy the link and post it to Yours.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Also, you might want to wait a moment before you copy the link so you don't copy it while it's broadcasting.
I was getting that message each time I clicked before I changed the url.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Then you can link your specific comment, which is much shorter than the regular post:

s reply here instead. The reply is later, and so should be beneath...
replied 753d
That's an issue with the UI of the web-app, not the memo protocol itself. It could be changed, or have a setting so you can choose which direction the chronology is sorted for display.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Wow! Do you know the details of how it could be changed?
Is there a way that we users could interact with memo and the memo staff to help?
Or is that going too far?
replied 753d
The devs are super friendly. They are busy though and have to prioritize what new features they implement. I haven't contributed code myself yet.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
How would you find what features they're focusing on? Would there be a way to help them with those?
replied 753d
As far as helping, anything you want to change/fix, you just download the code, make a change, test it, then submit a pull request with Git. They can accept it or reject it.
replied 753d
That I don't know. Usually you'd have a prioritized ticket system. You could look at the issues section of github, but not sure they are really using that for official prioirty.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Do you know their memos?

lol I'm already following all three.
replied 753d
Another possibility is to make another site/client to compete. That usually spurs innovation. We'd still all be talking to each other on the same blockchain & memo protocol.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Another .cash? How would you do that?
replied 753d
Here is a site that is monitoring data on the blockchain like memo activity & displays it, for example:

https://chainfeed.org/
anarchovegan
replied 753d
How curious! It's like the text form of chaturbate.
replied 753d
Also, if you can put TXs in the blockchain that conform to the memo protocol, they will show up in this app as well, even if you use your own software to do so.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
I wonder what would you be able to alter. Or if there could be an app where you could see it "unedited".
replied 753d
If you click the little grid box icon at the top right of a post, you will see links to view the TX for that post on several blockchain explorers.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Each like is .005 BCH which is $3.05 right now?
Looks like I have "599,436 satoshis (0.00599436 BCH)"...
So one more "like" and I won't be able to like posts? Or post?
anarchovegan
replied 753d
That post changed it to "599,020 satoshis (0.00599020 BCH)".
So replies cost 416 sats, or .00000416 BCH.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
To "598,424 satoshis (0.00598424 BCH)".
Ok. So I was off by a factor of ten. $0.0303 is how much likes cost... or 416 sats, or .00000416 BCH.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
I think I mixed up the like and replying units. Or are they the same?
replied 753d
Look for the OP_RETURN data and there you will see the raw data that comprises that post or action. Also the protocol is laid out here:

replied 753d
The blockchain is a distributed database that anyone can read or write to without permission, besides the rules that keep it functioning.
replied 753d
If you can retrieve the transactions (TXs) from the blockchain that have memo protocol data in them, you can display them. You can write your own code to do so if you are tech enough.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Ok. I am not right now. I would need to develop that. Do you have any suggestions in that regard? Perhaps I should ask the devs for direction?
replied 753d
It's pretty technical even for me being a programmer/software developer of over 20 years experience, so I haven't even attempted to set up my own instance of it to begin working on it.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
What do you think would be most productive to focus on?
slb
replied 753d
Use bitdb for getting the info and datacash for sending txs
replied 753d
If you can manage that, then I think you will know what to do next. It is a long journey though. In lieu of that, helping adoption and telling friends about memo is great too.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
Oh, I'm certainly spreading the word! ;)
Have you heard of Keyport? Yours.org?
https://bch.gg/memoalt
replied 753d
If you have programming ability though, my suggestion would be to try to understand the fundamentals of bitcoin first, then use a library to create a memo post.
anarchovegan
replied 753d
You mean the technical fundamentals of bitcoin?
Bitcoin is digital cash, making money permissionless and immutability via blockchain technology?
This reply to you is a memo post?
replied 753d
They have a suggestions topic here:

https://memo.cash/topic/Memo+Suggestions

and it's open source here:

anarchovegan
replied 753d
I will never be able to change that s into an a.
