Settling this dispute is above my pay grade. But I really hate that he suggested a setup that will not give his suggested result (his lightbulb is too energy consuming).
What happens if I throw a rock in the air? It will travel infinitely far. (Not important, but I am of course assuming that gravity is negligible compared to the speed of the rock).
