What needs to change is every time it is announced that someone accepts Bitpay, BTC is the headline and at the forefront of all news releases. Someone needs to stress BCH.

This. But give it time, BCH is the natural choice for bitpay. In the end, is more beneficial for BCH than BTC.

AT&T “accepts” btc and BCH via *BitPay*
Sooooo since BitPay actually pays AT&T in fiat.... AT&T actually just accepts fiat.
replied 2260d
They're a payment processor. They have to do it that way in order to guarantee vendors won't lose money. They get an option to get paid out in BTC/BCH though, I asked a while back

I'm thinking the whole "Bitpay isn't actually accepting bitcoin" argument may even have begun as a Core trolling attempt, it isn't really true at all

If the merchant never receives the crypto as the payment, only fiat, then are they really accepting crypto???
replied 2260d
Oh yeah, it means that you can pay for more things in BCH, that always signals adoption. BCH's economy is always going to be closed, at least until fiat is tokenized on top of it

But my point is that individual vendors can choose to actually accept and get paid out in the BTC/BCH they receive, so saying that using Bitpay isn't accepting Bitcoin is false

Ok, I see your point.
However it’s difficult for me to get excited about it. It is more exciting when a merchant is actually accepting crypto IMO. That is how currency is born.

Yeah small vendors accepting Bitcoin is what the movement is all about, totally with you there, but AT&T is too structured to be making speculative investments in increments that small

Good point. I suppose you gotta have a strong stomach to handle the volatility in crypto land. It’s one hell of a roller coaster sometimes 🤢🤮😂

We don't know what they do with the crypto, although is none of our business. Bitpay offers settlement in Fiat, BTC, BCH and stable coins.

Isn’t it kinda true though? I mean real adoption means that the merchant accepts the currency because they see value in it and want to earn it through the service they provide.

The just newly released Bitcoin.com article did it right.
