not really. it's like forking software.

I'm not against your point that forks are important, but when you split a chain you've doubled the potential "coins" that can exist, even though they're not the same.
replied 2178d
Without forks would you still suck on Blockstream's limp dick?
replied 2177d
well, to be honest mate, even BCH and most others are inferior to monero for the type of money I'm looking for so... no lol but i can troll you here, so i stick around.
replied 2177d
I'm involved with monero too but I wouldn't call it superior.

privacy and transparency both have pros and cons. eg: Monero's privacy is also a huge systemic risk not just a feature..
replied 2177d
also, a non-transparent blockchain makes it non-viable for a lot of usecases like blockchain based governance.
replied 2176d
i did mention that it was superior based on the criteria that I was looking for, I will say that not one can do it all, but the idea of me bobbin on blockstream's knob is right out

BTW, You can split/fork without copying the existing supply.

Also, your point is incorrect because anyone can create new networks too. Is that inflation in your mind too?
replied 2177d
I just minted one billion pickle tokens that have absolutely no value until people agree that they do, but if i forked a chain that had value at the right time... like in 2017...
replied 2177d
Give me all your pickle tokens or else!
replied 2177d
Nothing has value without demand, obviously. Anyone could fork any network, demand and network effect won't magically appear.
replied 2176d
if you could retroactively claim your coins because you held any of the original version, then coins were made without the usual "hashwork" associated with the minting of new coins
replied 2176d
I can agree there, but i would say that in the instance of a split in which the supply is doubled, and both forks have value and some network effect, that monies appeared suddenly.
replied 2177d
I did come to the realization that forks can happen without chain splits while in a cold sweat last night, i will concede that.
replied 2178d
it is, but like... if the digits on the screen that are forked have value then you've created value for a few lines of code. whether it retains value is another matter.
