It turns out, the poison is in the dose, & DDT wasn't that bad for humans. It had a net positive in reducing malaria. When it was banned, it indirectly caused many thousands of deaths.

The main reason it was banned was because of Rachel Carson's book "The Silent Spring" & flawed studies that pointed at DDT as harming birds by weakening their eggshells.

Don't know net positive, but it's still known as a dangerous toxin with long lasting effects. It was believed spraying it directly on people would prevent the spread of the poliovirus.
