Has anyone here been through this ?
Would you recommend any of this ?
Are there better alternatives to learn skills ?

i found a video series torrent a while back on pen testing with backtrack/kali. the tools make it too easy, you just need to know the tools

ideally, look at the source to see how the tools work. then start writing your own tools that make use of new exploits.

Considering a charity learning centre,
All infrastructure would be linux,
which would be a built-in requirement.
Maintaining a standard for security would be necessary.
