And it is still more profitable to mine BCH. There should have been even more blocks.
So this be would linked to the fact that BCH profitability was much higher than BTC during all this time?

Yes. But the problem is, miners create situations like this to exploit DAA - switch to other chains, wait diff to drop, then 'en-masse' switch back. BCH has low steady hashrate.
